MUSD Energy Ambassador Program
Written by: Britney Torres
The MUSD Energy Ambassador Program consists of student interns from Bell Gardens High School and the Applied Technology Center informing the community about energy savings. The interns communicate with homeowners to inform them about how to change their habits to reduce their energy usage and save money. The program has three major goals that will benefit the community.
The first goal is to give an opportunity to high school students to experience a real job. The students have the experience of learning responsibility and gaining important skills for future jobs. The students learn good communication skills by speaking to people of the community. They also learn a good work ethic and get use to meeting deadlines and communicating with their employees and supervisors. Also, the program helps them work as a team allowing the students to gain team working skills.
The second goal of the program is focused on helping residents of Bell Gardens and Montebello save money and energy. The program offers free in-home energy consultations. The consultation gives the resident an explanation about where in their home they are using the most energy. We follow up by giving tips on how they can save energy by adjusting their behavior and habits.
The third goal of the program is to boost local economy. We help the economy by deepening the impact of saving energy.
